September 20, 2007 – 1:16 pm2007 SA Comedy Awards – honouring South Africa’s best comedians
The first-ever South African Comedy Awards were held on 17 September at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. Everyone who is anyone in SA comedy was there, along with a host of renowned celebrities to add to the allure of the evening.
The awards “recognise the talents of comedians, playwrights, journalists and others and acknowledge the cultural contribution made by our funniest men and women across the spectrum of performance, print and broadcast media,” states the South African Comedy Awards website.
MyVideo was there and has produced 13 clips from the evening which include winners receiving their awards as well as performances from the linguistically adept Nik Rabinowitz, the suavely funny Loyiso Gola and the UK’s master of physical comedy, Steve Best.
The highlight of the evening was Pieter-Dirk Uys – known to many as Evita Bezuidenhout – receiving a standing ovation when he was awarded a life-time achievement award for the most outstanding contribution to South African comedy.
