Professor Mike Larkin of UCT was murdered on Friday 16 November as he was walking to his home in Roslyn Road, Rondebosch. On Monday 19 November, UCT staff, students and friends of Professor Larkin marched from UCT to Roslyn Road to honour him and pay tribute to his life.

The Springboks ended their countrywide parade (in celebration of their 15-6 Rugby World Cup victory) on Monday 29 October when they paraded through the streets of Cape Town before presenting the Web Ellis trophy to SARU - and a packed crowd - at Newlands. The efforts of Percy Montgomery, Bryan Habana, John Smit, Schalk Burger and the rest of the Springboks were applauded and celebrated by the tiniest of tots to the wisest of ardent supporters - this is an achievement and celebration that will stay in the memories of South Africans for a long time.
