The Americans love to show the world that they are slick, clever cowboys and Argo is no different. Very loosely based on a true story, Ben Affleck directed his third film detailing the rescue of six American embassy employees from Tehran, Iran in the 1979 hostage crisis. Affleck who also stars in the film says that much creative license was taken when making the film, but the essential core is based on reality. The rescue attempt was born from a CIA operative watching Planet of the Apes with his son and decided to have a crack squad of rescuers masquerade as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a Sci-fi movie. Historically accurate or not, the film has been well-received by critics and audiences and earned over $19 million in its opening weekend in the USA.
